Israeli Meteorological Chief Warns of Most Intense and Prolonged Heatwave This Season
Dr. Amir Gevati, head of the Israeli Meteorological Service, warned in a Ynet interview about a severe heatwave expected to peak early next week. He noted that while summer 2026 has not been particularly harsh so far, temperatures are already rising. Dr. Gevati highlighted that Saturday will be extremely hot, with temperatures reaching up to 47 degrees Celsius around the Sea of Galilee at the start of the week. He described this as the most significant and prolonged heatwave of the current season.
Dr. Gevati advised avoiding outdoor activities during the hottest hours to prevent heat-related illnesses. He recalled a similar heatwave in August of the previous year that resulted in numerous heatstroke cases and other serious health issues. The forecast indicates that temperatures will only begin to drop on Tuesday.
