Israel Prepares for Electricity Demand Surge Amid Incoming Heatwave

An extreme heatwave is expected to hit Israel this weekend, prompting concerns about a sharp increase in electricity demand due to widespread use of air conditioners and household appliances. The National Electric Company (NEGEA) and the Electricity Authority have completed preparations to manage the anticipated peak loads and are continuously monitoring consumption data, production capacity, and system status to ensure stable and reliable power supply.

Energy Minister Eli Cohen held a situation assessment with NEGEA, the Electric Company, and other government entities to confirm readiness for the expected demand surge. Last summer, Israel experienced record electricity consumption exceeding 17 gigawatts for four consecutive days without significant supply disruptions. Minister Cohen emphasized the energy sector's resilience and assured the public of reliable electricity supply under all scenarios.

The authorities warn that despite preparations, the increased load could cause localized network stress or outages. The ongoing monitoring and coordination aim to prevent such issues and maintain continuous electricity service throughout the heatwave period.
