Extreme Heatwave Intensifies Across Israel, Peaking Sunday with Severe Dehydration Risks

Israel is experiencing a severe heatwave with heavy to extreme heat burdens expected across most of the country. On Friday, the weather was mostly clear with temperatures hotter than usual, reaching up to 41 degrees Celsius in some areas like Eilat. The heat was particularly intense in the mountains and inland regions, while coastal plains remained milder. Overnight, skies will be clear to partly cloudy with possible fog limiting visibility in the northwest Negev by early morning.

The heatwave will worsen on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath, with further increases in temperature and heat intensity throughout Israel. Heavy to extreme heat conditions will persist nationwide. By Sunday, the heatwave is forecast to reach its peak, with a slight temperature rise leading to scorching conditions in most mountainous and inland areas, while the coastal plains will continue to experience milder heat. Afternoon winds are expected to strengthen, especially in the mountains and inland regions.

Temperatures on Friday ranged from 21 to 33 degrees Celsius in Jerusalem, 24 to 32 in Tel Aviv, 21 to 36 in Beersheba, 23 to 31 in Haifa, 24 to 39 in Tiberias, 21 to 34 in Safed, and 30 to 41 in Eilat. Authorities warn of a real risk of dehydration due to the extreme heat, urging the public to take precautions. No relief from the heatwave is expected in the immediate future.
