IDF Kills Two Hamas Operatives, Including One Linked to Hostage Detention
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Friday that two members of Hamas's armed wing were eliminated this week in airstrikes in Gaza City. The first, Hassan Mahmoud Siam, described as a commander in the militant group's armed wing, was killed on Wednesday. The IDF stated that Siam infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7th attacks and was subsequently involved in the detention of four hostages in Gaza: Amit Soussana, Keith Siegel, Aviva Siegel, and Dafna Elyakim.
A second Hamas member, Adham Sabhi Salim Ziara, was eliminated the day before in a separate strike in the same area. The IDF claims both men were preparing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians in recent weeks while also working to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities. Their alleged activities included firing at Israeli forces and planting explosive devices near the Gaza border. The military views these actions as a systematic violation of the ceasefire.
The IDF stated that the two men were eliminated from the air to "eliminate the threat they posed." Precautions were taken before the strikes to minimize civilian risk, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance. Forces from the Southern Command remain deployed in the area and will continue to act against any immediate threats, the military added.
