The Israel Defense Forces said it struck and killed two Hamas operatives in the Gaza Strip yesterday, identifying them as Ahmad Munir Khalil Zaza and Hussein Safdi. According to the military, both were involved in efforts to harm Israeli forces in the area.
The IDF said Zaza served as the engineering officer for the West Jabalia Battalion in Gaza City. It said he was responsible for producing and distributing weapons among companies, and for building explosives and booby-trapped houses. In recent days, the army said, he also tried to plant explosives near the yellow line.
Safdi was described as the commander of Hamas's sniper network in Gaza City. The IDF said he had been responsible throughout the war for all sniper operations against Israeli forces in the area. It added that in recent weeks he had repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreement and tried to train militants and advance additional sniper attacks against IDF troops.
