The IDF said it struck southern Gaza last week, killing Hussein Qedra and Muhammad Fara, operatives in the military wings of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. According to the army, the attack targeted men involved in a Hamas-run financial infrastructure used to move money into the Gaza Strip.
Qedra, identified as the head of the network, and Fara, along with other operatives, acted on instructions from Hamas leadership and helped transfer more than 500 million shekels to Hamas's military wing. The system relied on dozens of couriers and money changers operating in Turkey and the Gaza Strip.
The IDF said the money enabled Hamas, especially in recent times, to pay salaries to its fighters and finance terror activity against IDF forces and Israeli civilians. The army said these actions violated the ceasefire agreement.
