The IDF said it struck southern Gaza on Wednesday last week and killed Hussin Qadara and Muhammad Farah, operatives in the military wings of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. The military said the two were part of a Hamas-run system used to move money into the Gaza Strip.
According to the IDF, Qadara headed the network, and together with Farah and other militants, he worked under Hamas leadership to channel more than 500 million shekels to Hamas’s armed wing. The money was moved through a web of dozens of couriers and money changers operating in Turkey and Gaza.
The army said the funds helped Hamas, especially recently, pay salaries to its fighters and finance attacks against IDF troops and Israeli civilians. It added that this was done in violation of the ceasefire agreement.
The strike was announced after the military had already identified the men as part of the financial infrastructure supporting Hamas’s war effort in Gaza.
