IDF Eliminates Two Hamas Operatives, Including One Linked to Hostage Detention
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced Friday that two members of Hamas's armed wing were eliminated this week in airstrikes in Gaza City. Hassan Mahmoud Siam, described by the IDF as a commander in the militant group's armed wing, was killed on Wednesday. The Israeli military stated that Siam infiltrated Israeli territory during the October 7th attacks and was subsequently involved in the detention of four hostages in Gaza: Amit Soussana, Keith Siegel, Aviva Siegel, and Dafna Elyakim.
A second Hamas operative, Adham Sabhi Salim Ziara, was killed the day before in a separate strike in the same area. The IDF claims both men were recently preparing attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians while also working to rebuild Hamas's military capabilities. Their alleged activities included firing at Israeli forces and planting explosive devices near the Gaza border.
The military considers these actions a systematic violation of the ceasefire. The IDF stated the strikes were conducted from the air to "eliminate the threat they posed," adding that precautions were taken to minimize civilian harm, including the use of precision munitions and aerial surveillance.
Forces from the IDF Southern Command remain deployed in the area and will continue to act against any immediate threats, the army concluded.
