Two Israeli Arabs Arrested for Security Offenses, Aiding Hamas and Lebanese Agent
Sultan Abu Alheiga, a 31-year-old resident of Tamra, will be indicted on security offenses after allegedly attempting to aid Hamas's military wing. The Shin Bet and police announced Friday that Abu Alheiga was arrested two weeks prior during a joint operation. Investigations revealed he also contacted Iranian intelligence officials but did not carry out any missions for them before his arrest.
In a separate incident, a 32-year-old resident of Majd al-Krum was apprehended on suspicion of similar offenses for an agent from Lebanon. His investigation indicated he was in contact with a foreign agent for several months and was tasked with security-related missions. The suspect was aware the contact was a Lebanese agent, and payment attempts involved purchasing goods in Israel for him.
"The General Security Service and the Israel Police view any involvement of Israeli citizens in activities that endanger the security of the state and its citizens with great severity," a statement read. "They will continue to act according to the authority granted to them by law and will take all measures at their disposal to exhaust the legal process with those involved in this activity."
