Israeli Arab Man Charged with Contacting Hamas and Iran
An indictment is expected to be filed Friday at the Haifa District Court against Sultan Abu Alheiga, a 31-year-old resident of Tamra. Abu Alheiga was arrested on August 28th in a joint operation by the Shin Bet, the Northern District Police's Central Unit, and the National Guard Border Police.
Investigations by the Shin Bet and police revealed that Abu Alheiga had contacted the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing in Gaza, multiple times, seeking to assist them covertly. He also established contact with Iranian intelligence officials.
Authorities apprehended Abu Alheiga before he could carry out any tasks for the Iranian operatives. The Shin Bet and police emphasized their zero-tolerance policy for any Israeli citizens involved in activities that endanger national security, vowing to prosecute all involved parties.
The indictment is being filed by the Haifa District Prosecutor's Office.
