Israeli Arab Arrested for Alleged Ties to Hamas and Iranian Intelligence
Israeli police and the Shin Bet security agency announced the arrest of a 31-year-old man from the city of Tamra in northern Israel on security charges. The arrest was carried out by the National Guard in the Northern District of the Border Police.
During interrogations by the Shin Bet and the YAMAM (National Counter-Terrorism Unit), it was revealed that the suspect had repeatedly contacted Hamas's military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, in Gaza with the intention of providing covert assistance. The investigation also uncovered communication between the suspect and Iranian intelligence entities.
Authorities stated that while the suspect had contacted Iranian intelligence, he had not managed to carry out any missions for them before his apprehension. The joint statement from the police and Shin Bet indicated that an indictment would be filed against the suspect in the Haifa District Court by the Haifa District Public Prosecution.
The suspect, whose identity has not been released, is accused of attempting to aid a designated terrorist organization and engaging with foreign intelligence services.
