Israeli Arab Man Arrested for Hamas and Iran Ties
An indictment is set to be filed Friday at the Haifa District Court against Sultan Abu Alheiga, a 31-year-old resident of Tamra, for security offenses. Abu Alheiga was arrested on August 28th during a joint operation by the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) and the Northern District's Central Unit of the Police, carried out by the Northern National Guard in the Border Police.
During his interrogation by the Shin Bet and the Northern District police, it was revealed that Abu Alheiga had contacted the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Hamas's military wing in the Gaza Strip, on several occasions, seeking to assist them covertly. The indictment, to be filed by prosecutor Shir Mushiov, alleges that Abu Alheiga also established contact with Iranian intelligence officials.
However, he was apprehended before he could carry out any missions for them. The Shin Bet and police stated they "view with great severity any involvement of Israeli citizens in activities that endanger the security of the state and its citizens." They added that they will continue to act within their legal authority and employ all available means to prosecute those involved in such activities.
