Tamra Resident Accused of Hamas Espionage Contacted Iranian Intelligence
New details have emerged regarding a resident of Tamra, an Arab Israeli citizen, who is accused of spying for Hamas. The suspect allegedly contacted Hamas's official Al-Qassam Brigades email and, concurrently, reached out to Iranian intelligence services. Security officials are noting a significant increase in such espionage cases, including a trend where Israeli citizens attempt to work for multiple terror organizations simultaneously.
The suspect's connection with Hamas reportedly began in 2024 when he received instructions on how to transfer donations using digital currency. An Al-Qassam message from September 23, 2024, advised on using intermediaries for digital currency transactions, emphasizing secrecy regarding the recipient's identity for the donor's safety.
In early August, following two serious espionage cases involving Arab Israelis from the north, the suspect attempted to re-establish contact. He inquired about secure communication methods, identifying himself as an "internal Arab." The response from the alleged contacts was a call to wage war, urging sacrifice of possessions and lives for God.
Fortunately, a joint investigation by the police, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), and the Northern District's special operations unit (YAMAM) successfully thwarted his activities.
