Israeli Arab Charged with Hamas Ties and Attempted Iran Contact
An Israeli Arab resident of Tamra, Sultan Abu-el-Hija, 31, has been indicted on charges of attempting to aid Hamas and contacting Iranian intelligence. He was arrested on August 28, 2026, during a joint operation by the General Security Service (Shin Bet) and the Northern District Police.
During interrogations by the Shin Bet and the Northern District Investigation Unit, Abu-el-Hija reportedly made repeated attempts to assist the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas. It was also determined that he had contacted representatives of Iranian intelligence.
However, he had not yet completed any assigned tasks before his apprehension. An indictment was filed against him on the morning of Friday, September 18, at the Haifa District Court.
