IDF Conducts Surprise Drill Testing Multi-Front War Readiness
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a surprise chief of staff exercise on Sunday, codenamed "Dawn's Break 2.0," to test the readiness of its General Staff and main commands. The drill aimed to evaluate the military's ability to handle a sudden, complex, and large-scale multi-front conflict.
During the exercise, all commands for regional divisions, directorates, and branches were put on alert and tested across various scenarios. These included ground, air, and sea assaults, rocket attacks alongside shooting incidents, mass casualty events, and hostage situations, all designed to assess defense concepts and the implementation of defense orders in different sectors.
As part of the drill, ground and airborne reserve forces, including battalions and special units, were activated and deployed. Troops were rapidly dispatched to various locations to provide the quickest possible response. The exercise also examined multi-branch cooperation, encompassing air, ground, and sea forces, as well as decision-making processes and operational responses at all levels, from regional commands to the General Staff.
The IDF stated that it would conduct a thorough review of the exercise's lessons, identifying strengths and areas for improvement to enhance Israel's defense and readiness for diverse scenarios. This drill was part of the Operations Directorate's planned exercises for 2026.
