IDF Launches Surprise Drills Simulating Multi-Front Escalation

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) commenced surprise staff exercises on Sunday, September 6, codenamed "Alot HaShachar 2.0." The drills, ordered by IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir, are designed to test the military's readiness for a sudden, large-scale escalation across multiple fronts simultaneously.

The exercises will assess the preparedness of the General Staff, various commands, branches of the military, and reserve forces. Key areas of focus include the ability to rapidly mobilize forces, make swift decisions, and respond effectively to complex operational scenarios. Special attention is being given to preparations for the upcoming autumn holidays and the integration of lessons learned from recent combat operations and the events of October 7, 2023.

During the drills, commanders from all territorial commands, directorates, and military branches have been alerted. The IDF is also mobilizing specific units and testing its reserve forces. Chief of Staff Zamir is overseeing the exercises from the supreme command post and at various field locations.

The public has been warned of increased military and air traffic throughout the country on Sunday, with the IDF emphasizing that these activities are part of the exercises and do not indicate a real security incident. These drills are part of the IDF's operational directorate's training program for 2026. Army inspection officers, including reservists, are concurrently evaluating the combat readiness of various units and staff headquarters.
