IDF Conducts Large-Scale Drills Simulating Multi-Front War Scenarios
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted an emergency exercise on September 6, 2026, simulating simultaneous combat operations across four fronts: the northern border, the southern Gaza Strip, Tel Aviv, and the West Bank (Judea and Samaria). The exercise aimed to test the General Staff's response to a large-scale crisis and its ability to allocate forces during multiple complex incidents.
Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the drills, which began early in the morning. Most senior officers, including regional commanders, were not informed of the maneuvers in advance. The scenarios included a simulated infiltration of 10-15 terrorists from Lebanon into a border community, an attack on Highway 60 and infiltration into a West Bank settlement, missile attacks on Tel Aviv, and combat along the Gaza border fence.
One scenario involved terrorists breaching the Gaza border, infiltrating three Israeli communities, and seizing them. A battalion was airlifted to the Tze'elim base to liberate one of the occupied communities. To test commanders' decision-making under pressure, some systems were intentionally disabled. The exercise did not include a simulated Iranian missile strike.
An initial assessment indicated a "very good" level of IDF combat readiness.
