IDF Launches Surprise Multi-Front War Exercise 'Dawn's Rise 2.0'

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) commenced a large-scale, surprise military exercise early this morning, dubbed 'Dawn's Rise 2.0,' designed to test the military's readiness for complex, multi-front security scenarios in real-time. The exercise, directed by Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi, involves the General Staff, principal commands, and forces on alert, assessing the military's ability to transition rapidly from routine to a broad emergency state.

The drill aims to evaluate numerous operational and command components, including responses to unexpected events, deployment of forces and reserves, staff work, decision-making speed, and inter-level coordination. It spans the entire command chain, from regional commands to branches and directorates, up to the General Staff. The primary objective is to test the capacity to handle rapid escalation requiring simultaneous force deployment across multiple fronts.

During the surprise exercise, commanders from various commands, directorates, and branches were mobilized, along with reserve forces, to test their availability and the speed of transition to emergency footing. Lt. Gen. Halevi is closely monitoring the exercise from the IDF's command center and through field visits, observing event management, command responses, and force operations.

The IDF has warned of significant, unusual movement of security forces and aircraft across the country during the drill, emphasizing that this is a planned activity and not indicative of an actual security incident. The exercise also serves as part of the security preparations for the upcoming holiday period, aiming to bolster IDF defense and alert levels during this sensitive time.

'Dawn's Rise 2.0' is part of an ongoing process to strengthen operational foundations, enhance fitness, and improve readiness at all levels, incorporating lessons learned from recent combat and the events of October 7. The exercise ensures these lessons are practically implemented in command, alert, and force deployment procedures. Military audit officers are also inspecting units and commands to verify readiness and capability for emergency operations. The exercise is scheduled within the Operations Directorate's 2026 exercise plan, aimed at maintaining high readiness and rapid response capabilities for surprising, multi-front scenarios.
