IDF Conducts Surprise Large-Scale Readiness Exercise Simulating Multiple Threats

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted a surprise, large-scale military exercise named "Operation Dawn 2.0," testing the readiness of all its forces across land, sea, and air. The exercise, part of the annual training program and preparations for the High Holidays, involved simulating seven simultaneous operational zones and was designed to assess the military's response capabilities following the October 7th attacks and in anticipation of future threats.

During the drill, the IDF simulated complex scenarios across various fronts. These included potential infiltrations along the northern border and on Route 60, an incident near the Gaza border fence, missile attacks on the home front, and strikes on strategic targets. The exercise specifically simulated a scenario in the Northern Command where ten terrorists infiltrated the community of Hanita. Other simulated events included an attack on Route 60, an infiltration into the settlement of Shilo, falling projectiles near the border fence and in the Azrieli area, and attacks on strategic sites.

Further scenarios involved a multi-casualty event caused by missile fire, followed by an examination of a potential terrorist raid on three communities. Special forces and the Air Force were also deployed in the Tze'elim and Sderot areas to practice clearing a community of terrorists. All units were placed at readiness level 1, with forces in Gaza at readiness level 2.

The IDF reported that the exercise evaluated the forces' ability to rapidly transition between different operational zones, deploy forces unexpectedly, and execute orders in real-time. The military noted a significant increase in readiness and alertness levels since October 6th. Military controllers observed the exercise to assess the real-time implementation of orders.
