IDF Launches Large-Scale Drill in Southern Israel Amid Readiness Push

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has commenced a large-scale surprise drill, codenamed "Kidmat Homah" (Front Wall), in the Eilat region and along the eastern border. The exercise, conducted by Division 80, is designed to enhance the military's preparedness for sudden escalations and surprise attacks.

The drill is part of ongoing training efforts aimed at assessing and improving the operational readiness of forces for complex scenarios, with a particular focus on rapid response to significant threats that develop without prior warning. A key objective is to simulate and counter large-scale surprise attacks and swift security deteriorations, incorporating lessons learned from the events of October 7th.

"Kidmat Homah" will involve all units within Division 80, alongside elements from the Air Force and Navy, and other security agencies. The inter-branch cooperation aims to test the forces' ability to operate in a coordinated manner when facing multiple threats simultaneously.

This southern exercise follows closely on the heels of a nationwide surprise readiness test, "Alut Ha'shachar 2.0," ordered by IDF Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi, which evaluated the military's response to simultaneous, complex events across various fronts. The current drill shifts operational focus to the southern and eastern fronts.

During the exercise, Division 80 will be tested on extreme scenarios, including rapid response to surprise events, managing ongoing escalations, and coordinating with other IDF branches and relevant security bodies. Increased military vehicle and personnel movement is expected in the Eilat area and along the eastern border, with potential air and naval activity. The IDF has assured the public that this is a pre-planned exercise and there is no current security concern.
