צה"ל חיסל אתמול (שלישי) במרחב חאן יונס את מחמד סלימאן ביוק, מפקד בזרוע הצבאית של חמאס, שהשתתף בפשיטה על ישראל בטבח שמחת תורה. לפי צה"ל, ביוק פעל בתקופה האחרונה להטמנת מטענים ברצועת עזה נגד כוחות צה"ל, קידם מתווי טרור נגד ישראל, ופעל לשיקום יכולות חמאס תוך הפרת הפסקת האש.

החיסול בוצע כדי להסיר את האיום שהיווה ביוק. כוחות פיקוד הדרום פרוסים במרחב וממשיכים לפעול להסרת איומים מיידיים, כך נמסר מצה"ל.
