Man Charged with Murder of 7-Year-Old Boy in Beit Shemesh

Israeli prosecutors have indicted 26-year-old Liel Ifargan on charges of aggravated murder and attempted murder for an attack that killed 7-year-old Hillel Mordechai Dadon and injured his 4-year-old cousin, Rey. The indictment, reported by Ynet on September 14, details the August 17, 2026 incident in Beit Shemesh. The children were playing in an inflatable pool in their grandmother's yard under the supervision of a 15-year-old relative when Ifargan, who lived in a nearby outbuilding, emerged with a knife.

According to the indictment, Ifargan entered the yard intending to kill the children, stabbing Hillel in the chest and his cousin in the neck. He then returned to his residence and washed the blood from the knife. Hillel succumbed to his severe chest wound, while his cousin, who sustained a heavy bleeding neck wound, underwent emergency surgery, was placed in a medically induced coma, and put on a ventilator. He was discharged from the hospital three days later.

The prosecution's case relies on DNA analysis, emergency call recordings from the injured child's father to MADA (Israel's national emergency medical service), and a reenactment by Ifargan, during which he demonstrated the stabbings on two investigators. During interrogation, Ifargan reportedly stated, "The child who was stabbed in the chest was laughing at the child who was stabbed in the neck because he couldn't scream."

Prior to the attack, Ifargan had briefly visited the home and spoken with the owner before leaving, only to return hours later to carry out the assault. Prosecutors are seeking to keep Ifargan in custody until the trial concludes, also charging him with aggravated assault causing grievous bodily harm. Relatives of the deceased child attended the court hearing, with Hillel's grandmother, Hana, expressing profound grief and disbelief over the loss of her grandson. Hillel's mother, Tamar, rejected any claims of psychiatric illness on Ifargan's part, stating the incident had destroyed her innocence and that she expected him to be punished.

Prosecutors described the alleged actions as exceptionally cruel, highlighting the stark contrast between the children's innocent play and the accused's decision to arm himself with a knife. The indictment, they stated, reflects the extreme severity of the charges and their irreversible consequences.
