Netanya Daycare Assistant Sentenced to 7 Years for Child Abuse
A district court in Lod has sentenced a Netanya daycare assistant, Shelly Shainker, to seven years in prison for a series of violent acts against 12 toddlers under her care. The abuse occurred between May 29 and June 27, 2024. Shainker was convicted of nine counts of child abuse and 33 counts of assault causing actual bodily harm. The court detailed acts including kicking, slapping, pulling hair, and throwing the children onto floors and mattresses.
In addition to the prison sentence, Shainker was ordered to pay 300,000 shekels in compensation to the children. The sentencing reflects the severity and repetitive nature of the abuse perpetrated by someone entrusted with the care of very young children.
