Daycare Worker Sentenced to 7 Years for Abusing Toddlers in Israel

A former daycare assistant in Netanya, Israel, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for systematically abusing and assaulting 12 toddlers under her care. Shelly Sheinker, who worked at "HaGan HaShakuf" (The Transparent Garden) daycare, was convicted of multiple counts of abuse and assault against children aged seven months to 18 months.

The Central District Court in Lod also ordered Sheinker to pay a total of 300,000 shekels in compensation to the parents of the abused children. Prosecutors had sought a 10-year sentence, arguing that Sheinker "methodically and cruelly" abused the "helpless infants," exploiting their vulnerability and betraying the trust of their parents.

According to the indictment filed by the Central District Prosecutor's Office, Sheinker committed approximately 60 abusive acts. These included pushing, hitting, slapping, pulling hair, and ignoring the children's cries. In some instances, she kicked the toddlers, pinched them, and grabbed their faces forcefully. She also reportedly threw them down, sometimes while they were sleeping, sprayed cleaning fluid at them, and used a chair to push a crawling infant.

The abuse was captured on security cameras within the daycare facility. "We will review the sentence and consider whether to file an appeal," stated Adv. Ofir Fahima from the Central District Prosecutor's Office, emphasizing the need for significant punishment when a safe environment for children is violated.
