Daycare Assistant Sentenced to Seven Years for Abusing 12 Toddlers
A district court in Lod has sentenced Shelly Shainker, a former daycare assistant, to seven years in prison for multiple counts of abuse and assault against 12 infants and toddlers. The abuse occurred at the "Transparent Garden" daycare center in Netanya, and the victims ranged in age from seven months to 18 months old.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered Shainker to pay a total of NIS 300,000 (approximately $81,000 USD) in compensation to the parents of the children she abused. The sentencing marks the culmination of a legal process that found Shainker guilty of severe mistreatment of the young children under her care.
The case has drawn significant public attention in Israel, highlighting concerns about the safety and well-being of children in daycare facilities. The harsh sentence is intended to serve as a deterrent against similar acts of violence and neglect in childcare settings.
