Israeli Kindergarten Teacher Sentenced to Seven Years for Child Abuse

A kindergarten teacher in Netanya has been sentenced to seven years in prison for systematically abusing young children in her care. Shelly Sheinker, who worked at the "HaGan HaShakuf" kindergarten, was also ordered by the Central District Court in Lod to pay 300,000 shekels in compensation to the families of the twelve victims. The children, aged between seven months and a year and a half at the time of the abuse, were subjected to physical violence, including slapping, hitting, pushing, pinching, and hair pulling. Security camera footage captured approximately sixty instances of mistreatment. In some severe cases, Sheinker was accused of lifting infants by one arm and throwing them, spraying them with cleaning products, and even pushing a child with a chair. The prosecution had sought a ten-year sentence, but the judges cited probation reports and the defendant's personal circumstances, while emphasizing the extreme severity of her actions. The court highlighted the betrayal of trust by a caregiver entrusted with the safety of vulnerable infants.
