Naval Commandos Join Search for Missing Swimmer in Haifa

The story · English

Extensive search efforts are continuing for a young man in his 20s who disappeared at sea in Haifa on Friday. The Haifa resident entered the water near Students Beach on Thursday afternoon to dive and has not been seen since. Following his failure to return to shore, a large-scale search operation was launched.

In recent hours, search efforts have been expanded to include naval commandos from Unit 13, joining numerous forces that have been operating since Thursday. Searches are being conducted simultaneously at sea, in the air, and along the coastline. Participants include officers from the Carmel district, marine police, a police helicopter, volunteer jeep units, and other rescue forces.

The national unit for special rescues, Lahav, from the Fire and Rescue services, has also been deployed, along with ZAKA volunteers. Searches continued non-stop through the night and into Friday morning, utilizing boats and drones to scan wide areas both on land and in the water for any sign of the missing individual.

The police announced the incident shortly after 10 p.m. on Thursday, though the young man entered the water earlier that afternoon. As of Friday, he had not yet been located, and the extensive search operations in the Students Beach area and adjacent waters are ongoing.
