Massive Search Underway for Missing Diver Off Haifa Coast
An extensive search operation is underway since Friday morning at Students Beach in Haifa, attempting to locate a 20-year-old local resident who has been missing since Thursday afternoon. Numerous rescue and emergency forces are involved in wide-ranging searches on land, at sea, and from the air. Police Commissioner Kobi Shabtai and Commander of the Special Patrol Unit (YAMAM), Superintendent A, arrived at the scene to closely monitor the operation.
The incident began when the young man entered the water for free diving without breathing equipment, accompanied by a family member on a kayak. When the diver did not resurface, the relative alerted emergency services. The initial report was received by the police on Thursday evening, and teams have been working continuously since then to trace his whereabouts.
The complex search operation includes officers from the Carmel precinct, the maritime police, the jeep unit, and ZAKA volunteers, alongside firefighters from the Lahav rescue unit. Efforts involve advanced technologies such as underwater sonar, drones, a police helicopter, and foot patrols along the coastline with mounted police, motorcycles, and ground teams.
