Yair Golan Sues Sara Netanyahu Over Conspiracy Claims

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democratic Party, has filed a lawsuit against Sara Netanyahu, wife of the Prime Minister, for defamation and incitement following a television interview. In the interview on Channel 14 last week, Netanyahu allegedly promoted a conspiracy theory suggesting Golan had prior knowledge of the October 7th Hamas attack.

Golan is seeking at least 2.5 million shekels in damages. He claims Netanyahu's statements put him at risk, citing threats he received and the increased security he now requires as a result. He had previously sent Netanyahu a warning letter, demanding an apology and a financial contribution to survivors of the Nova music festival massacre within 24 hours, or face legal action.

During the interview, Netanyahu questioned Golan's actions on October 7th, stating, "You claim you fought on October 7th, you were already there early in the morning, dressed and ready. At a very early hour, when others didn't know, such as the Prime Minister." She further implied Golan might have known about the attack in advance.

Netanyahu has vowed to file a counterclaim, particularly concerning an incident at a barbershop in March 2023. The Likud party, in response to Golan's lawsuit, called his actions "a chauvinistic, thuggish, and violent display."
