Yair Golan Threatens Lawsuit Against Sara Netanyahu Over Defamation

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party and a retired Major General, has sent a legal warning letter to Sara Netanyahu, threatening a NIS 2.5 million defamation lawsuit. The action follows remarks Netanyahu made in an interview with Channel 14, which Golan claims contain false and slanderous accusations against him.

Golan alleges that Netanyahu falsely claimed he had prior knowledge of the October 7th Hamas attack, even before the Prime Minister. He views these statements as libelous and is demanding a public apology from Netanyahu.

However, Netanyahu has refused to apologize. Instead, she has demanded an apology from Golan and threatened to sue him for NIS 1 million herself. The dispute escalated following the interview, with Golan breaking his silence in an interview with Miki Levin for the Maariv podcast.

Golan stated that he believes Netanyahu's remarks were not a slip of the tongue but a deliberate, planned move, citing what he perceives as coordinated attacks against him on social media by Likud party elements since October 7th. He reiterated his demand for a swift, clear, and formal apology, warning that legal proceedings will commence if one is not provided.
