Yair Golan Threatens Lawsuit Against Sara Netanyahu Over Defamation

Yair Golan, chairman of the Democrats party and a retired Major General, has sent a legal warning letter to Sara Netanyahu, wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, threatening a defamation lawsuit. The letter, sent Tuesday, stems from an interview Netanyahu gave to Channel 14, in which she allegedly repeated conspiracy theories and false accusations against Golan.

Golan's legal team, from the EBN firm, demands that Netanyahu issue a public apology within 24 hours and agree to a financial settlement. The compensation, if agreed upon, would be fully donated to survivors of the Nova music festival massacre. If Netanyahu fails to comply, Golan intends to file a lawsuit seeking at least 2.5 million shekels in damages.

The proposed apology text requires Netanyahu to retract her statements, calling them baseless lies. It asserts that Golan, armed only with his weapon and risking his life, rescued young people from the Nova party on October 7th, after learning of the Hamas attack at 6:29 AM with the first sirens. The draft apology states Golan then went to the Gaza border region to help.

The legal letter details Golan's actions on October 7th, refuting Netanyahu's narrative. It states Golan learned of the attack with the sirens, drove his private car to the Home Front Command, armed himself with a rifle, and proceeded to the Gaza border area. There, he repeatedly entered areas where festival-goers had fled, rescuing six individuals and saving their lives. The letter characterizes Netanyahu's remarks as malicious falsehoods intended to portray Golan as a traitor and to damage his reputation ahead of elections, accusing her of attempting to rewrite history and diminish the heroism of soldiers and civilians.
