Netanyahu's Wife Threatens Lawsuit Against Yair Golan Over Defamation

Sara Netanyahu, through her attorney, has sent a warning letter to Yair Golan, rejecting his demand for an apology and threatening a defamation lawsuit. The letter, penned by attorney Hor Uriel Nizri, states that Golan has been the one defaming Netanyahu over the years. Nizri claims Netanyahu's remarks on Channel 14, which Golan demanded an apology for, were sarcastic and referred to officials who failed to update the Prime Minister on events. He accuses Golan and his associates of cynically distorting her words to portray them as conspiracy theories.

Nizri's letter further asserts that Golan's own past statements about Netanyahu and her family provide grounds for a defamation suit against him. The attorney cites specific remarks attributed to Golan in an interview where he allegedly attacked Netanyahu and her family, deeming them "serious" and beyond legitimate political criticism. The letter argues that Golan's consistent harsh criticism of Netanyahu and her family constitutes libel and damage to her reputation.

As a counter-demand, Netanyahu's attorney is calling for Golan to issue a public apology and donate 100,000 shekels to the Ali preparatory academy. The letter warns that legal action will be pursued if these demands are not met.

The dispute escalated after Netanyahu's comments on Channel 14 regarding Golan's early arrival at a location on the morning of October 7th. Following these remarks, Golan, represented by lawyers from EBN, sent his own pre-litigation warning. He demanded a public apology and financial compensation within 24 hours, to be donated to survivors of the Nova music festival. Golan threatened a lawsuit of at least 2.5 million shekels if his demands were not met.

Golan stated that attempts are being made to rewrite the events of October 7th to absolve Netanyahu of responsibility for the "greatest failure in the country's history." He accused those in power of trying to frame defenders of the country as traitors and those who allegedly funded Hamas and neglected security as victims. Golan vowed to establish a state commission of inquiry to uncover the truth and identify those responsible for the failures.
