Israeli Paraglider Dies in Colombia Crash
Noam Maman, a 23-year-old Israeli citizen also holding German nationality, died yesterday in Colombia following a paragliding accident, the Foreign Ministry announced Friday. Local reports indicate Maman was a passenger in a tandem paraglider that lost control due to weather conditions and crashed on a slope in the village of San Felix, near the city of Bío Bío. The paragliding instructor, Emiliano Monitón Castro Caldas, sustained severe injuries and is in critical condition at Pablo Tobón Uribe Hospital in Medellín. Israel's embassy in Colombia and the department for Israelis in distress abroad are assisting Maman's family with arrangements for his burial in Israel and are in contact with local authorities.
The accident occurred in an area known for paragliding, but adverse weather conditions are believed to have been a contributing factor.
