Israeli Ex-Soldier Dies in Paragliding Accident in Colombia

A 21-year-old former Israeli soldier was killed in a paragliding accident in Medellin, Colombia, on Tuesday. The incident occurred around noon local time when the paraglider he was flying in, piloted by a Colombian national, plummeted and crashed into a cliffside. The pilot sustained serious injuries.

Reports from Colombia suggest that adverse weather conditions, including strong winds, may have caused the paraglider to lose control and crash in a wooded area. Emergency services and firefighters were dispatched to the scene to recover the Israeli's body and transport the injured pilot to a local hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported strong winds in the area prior to the crash. Colombian judicial investigators arrived at the scene to conduct a forensic examination of the deceased, who was on a post-army trip. Authorities also inspected the business that rented out the paraglider and confirmed its documentation was in order. While the business was not shut down, investigations are ongoing to clarify the circumstances of the accident.

Following the news, Rabbi Levi Wunu of the local Chabad center, in close cooperation with the Israeli Embassy, is working with Colombian authorities to expedite bureaucratic procedures and ensure the swift return of the deceased's body to Israel for burial.
