Israeli Tourist Killed in Paragliding Accident in Colombia
A 23-year-old Israeli tourist vacationing in Colombia died on Thursday afternoon in a paragliding accident in the San Felix region. The accident occurred around noon on the Medellin-San Pedro de los Milagros road, near Medellin, when the tandem paraglider lost control and crashed into a ravine in a wooded area. The victim's flight instructor was critically injured and hospitalized.
According to regional officials and eyewitnesses, strong winds and harsh weather conditions were reported in the area, contributing to the crash. Firefighters, ambulances, and fire trucks were dispatched to the scene to recover the Israeli's body and evacuate the injured instructor.
The prosecutor's office has launched a legal investigation and is collecting evidence. Local authorities inspected the paragliding business and found it to be in order, though the investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
Following the incident, the Chabad emissary in Medellin, Rabbi Levi Wunu, in close cooperation with the Israeli embassy, is working around the clock with local authorities.
