Ed Sheeran Concert Disrupted by Anti-Israel Rant, Petition Demands Rapper's Removal

During a concert by singer Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, opening act Macklemore delivered a political speech and performed his song "Hind's Hall," which references the pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University. The song's title is derived from the nickname "Hind's Hall" given by protesters to Hamilton Hall after they occupied it. Macklemore's performance included images from Gaza and calls for "Free Palestine."

In response to the incident, the Israeli-American Community (IAC) launched a petition urging Sheeran and his tour management to remove Macklemore from the remaining tour dates. The IAC stated that the concert platform should not be used to promote a one-sided political agenda with biased messages and controversial claims presented as fact to a large audience.

The petition emphasizes that while Macklemore has the right to his political views, using a "world concert" platform for a "one-sided political agenda" is problematic, especially when the message relies on selective imagery and lacks context or complexity. The IAC is calling for Macklemore's removal from the rest of the tour and for clear boundaries to be set regarding the use of the tour's stage for political messaging.

The organization also urged the public to contact Live Nation, a major concert promoter, to demand action. The IAC concluded its petition by stating, "Freedom of expression does not mean freedom from responsibility. Your show. Your stage. Your responsibility."
