Ed Sheeran Faces Protest Over Macklemore's Anti-Israel Remarks
The Israeli-American Community (IAC), representing over 150,000 members, has launched a new petition calling on singer Ed Sheeran and production company Live Nation to immediately remove rapper Macklemore from Sheeran's "Loop Tour." The protest stems from Macklemore's opening performance at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, attended by over 80,000 fans.
During his set, Macklemore used the stage to speak out against Israel, calling for "Free Palestine" and performing his song "Hind's Hall." This song, written in solidarity with campus protests, is named after Hamilton Hall at Columbia University, which was occupied by demonstrators. The performance featured images from Gaza and one-sided political messages displayed on large screens.
The IAC criticized the act as a cynical exploitation of a musical event. In their letter, they stated, "The question is not the right to hold political views, but where the line is drawn when a warm-up act uses a global platform to promote a one-sided agenda without context. Freedom of expression is not freedom from responsibility, your stage, your responsibility."
