Macklemore Repeats 'Free Palestine' Call on Ed Sheeran's Stage Amid Backlash

Rapper Macklemore returned to the stage as a warm-up act for Ed Sheeran in New Jersey on Saturday, a day after his pro-Palestinian statements sparked anger among Israeli and Jewish attendees. During his second consecutive night opening for Sheeran at MetLife Stadium, Macklemore again urged the crowd to "Free Palestine" and performed his song "Hind's Hall," which criticizes Israel's actions in Gaza, accuses the country of apartheid and genocide, and condemns American support.

Footage shared by concertgoers showed Macklemore reiterating his pro-Palestinian message, following a similar display during the previous night's performance where he dedicated a significant portion of his set to the war in Gaza. "Hind's Hall," released in 2024, was again included in his setlist, with its lyrics displayed on screen alongside images presented as pro-Palestinian propaganda and IDF soldiers.

The rapper's initial performance on Friday generated considerable backlash from Israelis and Jewish fans who attended Sheeran's main concert. Some attendees expressed surprise and disappointment, stating they had purchased tickets solely to see Ed Sheeran and were unaware the opening act would feature strong anti-Israel political messaging. "People bought a ticket to see Ed Sheeran," read one widely shared online comment, criticizing the decision to give Macklemore a platform in front of tens of thousands.

Attendees from the first show described the experience as "very triggering and blatant." A group of ten friends recounted their shock, noting that while they were accustomed to occasional political calls, Macklemore's performance included a lengthy speech and a full song with accompanying visuals. "Many people got up and left," they reported.

Macklemore is an official opening act for Sheeran's North American tour and is scheduled to perform alongside him in additional cities. As of the report, Ed Sheeran has not publicly addressed the messages delivered by his opening act during the two concerts.
