Macklemore's Ed Sheeran Opening Act Sparks Outrage With Anti-Israel Display

Rapper Macklemore ignited controversy during his opening performance for Ed Sheeran at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey over the weekend. Many Israelis and Jewish attendees expressed anger after Macklemore used his time on stage to deliver a strong pro-Palestinian message and anti-Israel rhetoric.

Macklemore appeared on stage wearing a keffiyeh, a traditional Arab headdress often associated with Palestinian identity, and called for "Free Palestine" to tens of thousands of concertgoers. He delivered a speech expressing solidarity with people in Gaza and the West Bank, referencing security and peace in the context of "planes and bombs."

The rapper then performed his song "Hind's Hall," which was released in 2024 amid campus protests in the United States. During the performance, large screens behind him displayed images from Gaza and pro-Palestinian demonstrations. The song itself contains accusations of genocide and apartheid against Israel and criticizes Zionism, stating that the Nakba has never ended.

Jewish and Israeli families who had purchased tickets to see Ed Sheeran voiced sharp criticism, stating they did not expect to be subjected to anti-Israel political propaganda. Macklemore is listed as an official opening act for several of Ed Sheeran's U.S. tour dates. As of now, neither Ed Sheeran nor his production team have publicly responded to the controversy.
