Maccabi Tel Aviv Signs World Champion Daniel Theis for 2026/27 Season
Maccabi Tel Aviv has announced the signing of German center Daniel Theis, a world and European champion, ahead of the 2026/27 basketball season. Theis, who joins on a two-year contract, is regarded as one of Europe's top interior players. He has a rich career including seven years in the NBA, where he averaged 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds over 452 games. After returning to European basketball a year and a half ago, Theis played for AS Monaco, posting averages of 9.7 points, 5 rebounds, and a 69.2% field goal percentage in the EuroLeague. Notably, one of his best performances came against Maccabi Tel Aviv, scoring 17 points.
Maccabi chairman Shimon Mizrahi described Theis's signing as "very significant," highlighting his experience and defensive contributions. Head coach Oded Katash emphasized Theis's versatility and winning mentality, noting his experience at the highest levels including NBA and EuroLeague championships. Theis's addition complements recent signings like Bonzi Colson and Yam Madar, as well as returning players from last season. Maccabi aims to leverage this strengthened roster to advance further in the prestigious EuroLeague competition.
