Maccabi Tel Aviv Signs Veteran German Center Daniel Theis on Two-Year Deal

Maccabi Tel Aviv has completed the signing of veteran German center Daniel Theis on a two-year contract worth $2.2 million. Theis, 34, who stands 2.06 meters tall, was initially set to join French club Villeurbanne, but the team's financial difficulties led to a significant budget cut and the departure of several key players, opening the door for Maccabi to secure his services.

Theis brings extensive experience from top-tier basketball, including several years in the NBA with the Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Clippers, before becoming a key frontcourt player for Monaco in the EuroLeague. Over the past two seasons, he has established himself as one of Europe's most reliable big men, averaging 11.7 points and 5.5 rebounds in 2024/25 and 9.7 points and 5.0 rebounds in 2025/26.

The signing was facilitated by agent Nadav Mor of CAA, who also represents Israeli players Omer Meir and Ben Sarf. Maccabi's coach, Oded Katash, views Theis as a major reinforcement expected to serve as the team's leading center. The contract will keep Theis with Maccabi until he turns 36, marking a significant addition to the club's roster ahead of the upcoming season.
