Daniel Theis Signs Two-Year Deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv to Strengthen Frontcourt

Maccabi Tel Aviv officially announced the signing of Daniel Theis, a 34-year-old German center and European and World champion, on a two-year contract. Theis, who stands 2.04 meters tall, brings significant physical presence and experience to coach Oded Katash's team. He will earn $2.2 million over the contract period.

Theis, who played 411 NBA regular-season games and 41 playoff games with teams including the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bulls, and Houston Rockets, recently played for Monaco. He helped Monaco reach the EuroLeague final two years ago before leaving due to financial instability at the French club, which allowed Maccabi to secure his signing.

Maccabi chairman Shimon Mizrahi called the signing "very significant," highlighting Theis's rich experience and defensive reinforcement. Coach Oded Katash praised Theis's versatility and winning mentality, noting his NBA and EuroLeague background and international titles with Germany.

Theis averaged 9.7 points, 5 rebounds, and a 12.2 efficiency rating in 20 minutes per game last EuroLeague season with Monaco. His arrival complements the recent signing of Armando Bacot and the return of Shane Hunter on loan, effectively completing Maccabi's frontcourt roster ahead of the new EuroLeague and Israeli Premier League seasons. Theis also holds three German league titles with Bamberg and a bronze medal from EuroBasket 2022.
