Maccabi Tel Aviv Optimistic About Completing Deal for German Center Daniel Theis

Maccabi Tel Aviv is intensifying efforts to sign German national team center Daniel Theis amid financial difficulties faced by his current club, Villeurbanne. The Israeli team is prepared to take over Theis's contract from the French club in a deal estimated at around $2.5 million for the upcoming season. The club is in contact with both Villeurbanne and Theis's agent, with Theis expressing interest in joining a team where he would have a significant role, which Maccabi Tel Aviv, the Israeli Premier League champion, is offering.

Sources within Maccabi Tel Aviv say Theis is keen on moving to Israel and there is optimism he will fill the team's leading center position. Although other EuroLeague teams are interested in Theis, few can offer him as prominent a professional role as Maccabi Tel Aviv can at this stage of the summer.

Theis, 34, standing 2.03 meters tall, returned to Europe a year and a half ago after seven seasons in the NBA, where he established himself as one of the top European centers. Over the past season and a half, he has played for Monaco, averaging 9.7 points and 5 rebounds per game last season. In the NBA, he played a total of 411 games, averaging 7.1 points and 4.7 rebounds, with his best season being 2019/20 with Boston, where he averaged 9.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.
