Daniel Theis Signs Two-Year Deal with Maccabi Tel Aviv to Lead Frontcourt
Daniel Theis has finalized a two-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv, agreeing to a salary of $2.2 million per season. The deal was completed after resolving a dispute with his former club, Villeurbanne, which compensated the German center. Theis is expected to join Maccabi, the reigning Israeli champions, and form a new frontcourt alongside Roman Sorkin and Armando Bacot, who has also signed with the team.
Maccabi accelerated efforts to secure Theis following roster changes in the EuroLeague and the availability of high-profile free agents. Theis will be making his third EuroLeague stop after previous stints with Bamberg and Monaco. He spent nearly a decade in the NBA before moving to Europe, where he played the last season and a half with Monaco, averaging 9.7 points per game on 69.2% shooting, along with 5 rebounds, including 1.7 offensive boards.
Notably, Theis scored a season-high 17 points in a regular-season game against Maccabi Tel Aviv. With this signing, Maccabi aims to strengthen its frontcourt and maintain its competitive edge in the Israeli Basketball Premier League and the EuroLeague.
