Israeli Man Indicted for Murder Using Remote-Detonated Bomb in Afula

A serious indictment was filed on Monday against Yosef (Yossi) Asur, 38, from Migdal HaEmek, accusing him of the aggravated murder of Avneh Dinco, 29, from Afula. The Northern District Police solved the case, which is believed to stem from a dispute between local crime organizations. According to the indictment, Asur planned the assassination for about two weeks, conducted reconnaissance near Dinco's home, attached an explosive device to Dinco's car, and remotely detonated it as Dinco returned home, killing him instantly. Asur also faces charges related to weapons offenses and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, May 26. Prior to the attack, Asur obtained a stolen car with fake license plates and repeatedly surveilled Dinco's residence at night to learn the family's routine. On the night of May 25-26, he placed the bomb under the family's Hyundai near the driver's seat, tested it, and then waited in a nearby observation point. At 8:38 a.m., as Dinco was driving back home alone, Asur detonated the bomb remotely, causing fatal injuries and massive blood loss. Asur fled the scene afterward.

Additionally, Asur is accused of carrying and transporting an explosive device that was found on a road in Afula in February. Prosecutors cite security camera footage, DNA and fingerprint evidence, tracking devices, operational reports, and testimonies as proof against him. Asur has a criminal record with 12 prior convictions including drug offenses, violence, weapons charges, property crimes, extortion, robbery, theft, arson, and driving without a license. He is a seasoned criminal who has served prison sentences.

The prosecution, represented by attorneys Yaara Barzilai-Cohen and Roy Elpasi, requested to extend Asur's detention until the conclusion of legal proceedings. Judge Hana Sabag extended his detention with the consent of his new defense lawyer, Doron Noy, who only recently received the investigation file. Noy stated to Walla News that Asur has denied any involvement from the start and is confident they will convince the court to release him after reviewing the evidence.
