Israeli Police Name Suspect in Car Bomb Murder of Ovnech Dinko

Israeli police have publicly identified Yosef Ben Yaakov Asor, 38, from Migdal HaEmek, as the suspect in the murder of Ovnech Dinko, who was killed by a powerful car bomb in Afula. Dinko, who was not involved in criminal activity, was targeted due to the criminal ties of his family members. The indictment was filed on Monday at the Nazareth District Court charging Asor with aggravated murder, weapons offenses, possession of a stolen vehicle, and carrying an explosive device.

According to the indictment, Asor surveilled Dinko's home area twice about two weeks before the attack. On the night of the murder in late May, Asor drove a stolen operational vehicle with fake license plates to a residential neighborhood in Afula. Around 5 a.m., he placed an explosive device under Dinko's Hyundai near the driver's seat and monitored the bomb for several hours as children and passersby unknowingly passed nearby.

At 8:38 a.m., when Dinko returned alone to his car, Asor remotely detonated the bomb, causing a massive explosion. Dinko was rushed to Emek Medical Center in critical condition but was pronounced dead. Asor fled the scene but was apprehended within hours by the YAMAR Amakim investigators. The police also linked Asor to another unexploded bomb found in Afula in February, with the intended target still unknown. This case highlights the dangerous ease with which explosives are planted in residential areas, endangering innocent lives amid ongoing criminal conflicts.
