Israeli Police Charge Man With Murder Over Car Bombing in Afula

Israeli police have charged Yossi (Yosef) Asur, a 38-year-old resident of Migdal HaEmek, with the murder of Obnek Dinko following a car bomb explosion in Afula two months ago. The incident occurred around 9 a.m. when a vehicle exploded in a residential neighborhood, critically injuring Dinko, who later died at Emek Medical Center.

The investigation was led by the Northern District's YAMAR unit and involved rapid, extensive investigative actions. Authorities arrested Asur within hours and seized the vehicle used, which was stolen and bore legitimate license plates stolen from an identical car. Evidence showed Asur prepared the explosive device about eight hours before the blast, starting from the Tivon area and conducting multiple preparatory activities at the scene and access routes.

Northern District Commander Major General Meir Eliyahu emphasized the priority given to solving murder cases and combating serious crime, praising the swift arrest and indictment as a result of dedicated investigative efforts. The indictment was filed by the Northern District Prosecutor's Office and is set to be heard at the Nazareth Nof HaGalil District Court.

Asur's defense attorney, Doron Noy, stated that Asur has denied any involvement since his arrest and expressed confidence that reviewing the evidence will lead to his release. The police continue to focus on resolving ongoing cases and ensuring that those involved in serious crimes are brought to justice.
