Jaffa Man Indicted for Murder Using Car Bomb

Israel's State Prosecution has filed an indictment against Ghazi Ashkar, 34, from Jaffa, for the murder of Mustafa Abu Lassan. Ashkar is accused of detonating a bomb planted in Abu Lassan's car approximately two and a half months ago. According to the indictment, Ashkar and others planned to kill Abu Lassan, tracked his movements, and attached a tracking device and explosive device to his vehicle.

On the day of the murder, Abu Lassan parked his car at a gas station in Holon. Ashkar's accomplices, who had been following the victim, stopped nearby. Shortly after, they remotely detonated the powerful explosive device, killing Abu Lassan and causing extensive damage to seven other vehicles, two of which were completely destroyed.

Following the assassination, Ashkar allegedly attempted to obstruct justice by transferring the vehicle used in the crime to a car dealer and instructing them to destroy the license plates to evade law enforcement. The indictment charges him with aggravated murder in concert, conspiracy to commit a crime, altering a vehicle's identity, and obstruction of justice.

The prosecution is seeking to detain Ashkar until the conclusion of legal proceedings, citing the premeditated nature of the crime, the use of a powerful explosive in a crowded public area during daylight hours, and the significant risk posed to bystanders.
