Benyahu Malat Killed in Shooting Near Givat Gilad, Laid to Rest Beside Rabbi Raziel Shevach

Benyahu Malat, who was murdered in a shooting attack near the Givat Gilad settlement on Friday morning, was buried at the Givat Gilad cemetery alongside Rabbi Raziel Shevach, who was killed in a similar attack in 2018. The funeral took place at 3:30 PM at the cemetery. Malat was killed during an assault on a group of Jewish hikers near the village of Tal in the Samaria region. Dozens of Palestinians attacked the hikers, and during the struggle, the security coordinator of Givat Gilad had his weapon stolen by a terrorist. The assailant used the stolen weapon to open fire on the Israelis. Malat, who was present, acted alongside the security coordinator and the regional platoon commander to protect the hikers and repel the attackers. In the attack, Malat was killed and three other Israelis were wounded, including one critically. Shortly afterward, IDF forces killed the terrorist and recovered the stolen weapon. Itai Zar, one of the founders of Givat Gilad, expressed deep sorrow at the scene, describing Malat as a dear friend, a security team member, a family man, and an exemplary individual. Zar called for a change in security policy and the continued strengthening of settlements in the area following the murder.
