Friend Recalls Final Embrace From Benyahu Malat Before Deadly Attack in West Bank

Yosef Frisman, a resident of Yitzhar and longtime friend of Benyahu Malat, who was recently killed, shared memories of their friendship dating back to age 13. Frisman described Malat as a supportive and strong figure in their community, providing backing to youth in the hilltop settlements around Migron on Route 60. He emphasized Malat’s dedication to the people of Israel, the land, and Torah values.

Frisman recounted their last meeting at Havat Gilad the previous Saturday, following a major arson attack there. Upon arriving early, Frisman asked Malat what to do, and Malat responded with a strong hug and the words, "Run forward." Frisman said this embrace was typical of Malat’s character, always encouraging and resilient.

He also highlighted Malat’s role in connecting the organized settlements with the youth of the hilltop communities and his involvement in local struggles, including a recent effort that led to dozens of families moving into the area about two weeks prior. Frisman called for continued activism in the region, stating that these villages should become as established as Khan Yunis and Rafah in Gaza.

Frisman described the morning after Malat’s death as extremely difficult for all of Israel, mourning the loss of a man wholly devoted to the nation and its values.
